WHAT IS NEW?

A graphic to promote ACPA-Michigan's upcoming webinar, titled "Beyond “Toxic Masculinity”: Cultivating Hope, Belonging, and Healthier Masculinities on Campus." The graphic includes the ACPA-Michigan logo in the upper left corner, with a photo of the presenter, Dr. Keenan Colquitt, Program Manager for Scholar Engagement in the Phillip J. Bowman Center for Scholarship to Practice at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, below it. On the right side of the graphic below the presentation title is the date and time of the event, which is Tuesday, June 23rd from 12-1pm. The description of the event reads "Drawing from interdisciplinary scholarship and campus-informed examples, we will explore why manosphere narratives can resonate (e.g., loneliness, identity development, algorithmic amplification) and how they may normalize resentment, misogyny, homophobia, and rigid gender roles. Participants will learn how these messages can affect campus climate, student well-being, and help-seeking, with attention to intersections of race, class, sexuality, disability, nationality, and faith," followed by a "register now" graphic and QR code to sign up.

Learning Outcomes:

As a result of participating in this webinar, participants will:

  • Define the manosphere and identify common narratives and normalization/recruitment tactics.
  • Analyze how these messages can shape student belonging, help-seeking, and relationships, including intersectional impacts across race, class, sexuality, disability, nationality, and faith.
  • Leave with at least two actionable strategies to apply in their role (e.g., prevention education, residence life, advising, conduct, counseling/outreach, student leadership).

Beyond “Toxic Masculinity”: Cultivating Hope, Belonging, and Healthier Masculinities on Campus

Tuesday, June 23rd | 12-1pm

This webinar examines the growing influence of the “manosphere”; an online ecosystem of influencers, forums, and content shaping how some students understand gender, relationships, status, and power, and what it means for campus hope and belonging. Drawing from interdisciplinary scholarship and campus-informed examples, we will explore why manosphere narratives can resonate (e.g., loneliness, identity development, algorithmic amplification) and how they may normalize resentment, misogyny, homophobia, and rigid gender roles. Participants will learn how these messages can affect campus climate, student well-being, and help-seeking, with attention to intersections of race, class, sexuality, disability, nationality, and faith. The session provides practical, equity-centered strategies that avoid amplifying harmful content: media literacy and “inoculation” approaches, facilitation moves for difficult conversations, and cross-campus prevention and support pathways. Attendees will leave with concrete tools to respond and foster healthier masculinities grounded in care, accountability, and connection.

This is the third webinar in ACPA-Michigan's 2026 Webinar Series "Doing More with Less," which will feature presentations from higher education faculty and staff about how their campus remains steadfast in centering student success while facing budget cuts, minimized staffs, and uncertain futures. We hope you'll join us!
